Delete the application
Deleting the Azure managed application also deletes its managed resource group. Treat deletion as destructive and irreversible unless your recovery plan has been tested.
Before deletion
- Obtain application-owner, data-owner, security, and billing approval.
- Stop or redirect ingestion clients.
- Export data that must be retained.
- Create and verify the required final snapshot.
- Confirm where the snapshot is stored and whether deleting the application affects access to it.
- Record users, integrations, DNS records, Private Endpoints, certificates, alerts, and dependent applications that must be removed.
- Record the managed application resource ID and deletion approval.
Delete and monitor
- In the Azure portal, open the managed application.
- Review the resource and managed resource group one final time.
- Select the Azure delete action and confirm the exact application.
- Monitor the state through Deleting to Deleted.
- Do not manually delete individual managed resources to speed up the process.
- Escalate if Azure reports deletion failure or managed resources remain after the managed application is gone.
Complete decommissioning
- Remove customer-owned Private Endpoints and unused DNS records.
- Revoke application identities, API keys, and client credentials.
- Remove monitoring, alerts, allowlists, and integration configuration.
- Confirm billing and Marketplace subscription state.
- Retain the approved audit and recovery records without retaining secrets.
Microsoft documents the deletion behavior in Azure Managed Applications overview.
